Lockdown Licks no. 154. “City Girls’ by JJ Cale. Solo played on a Stratocaster on neck/middle pick up setting. Played through NUX M8 amp on ‘Blues’ setting with a little reverb. The solo is classic country- blues style with a strong country sound. I think it was played by Reggie Young, a hugely respected session guitarist who played for Elvis,Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard amongst others?
“City Girls” is the opening song from JJ’s 1982 album “Grasshopper”. Recorded in Nashville and Hollywood, JJ continued his exploration of diverse and varied North American musical styles which would later become known as “Americana”!
