Lockdown Licks no.185. “Money For Nothing.” by Dire Straits.
Signature riff in style of original played on a HB35+ guitar set to mid pick ups using both humbuckers with volume on 8, both tone controls on 7. Played through a NUX M8 amp set to ‘superlead’ with gain on 7.
Original played by Guitarist Mark Knopfler. Surely one of the most famous riffs of all time!
“Money for Nothing” is a song by English rock band Dire Straits, the second track on their fifth studio album, Brothers in Arms (1985). It was released as the album’s second single on 28 May 1985 through Vertigo Records and was a huge artistic & commercial success. The song’s lyrics are written from the point of view of two working-class men watching music videos and commenting on what they see. The song features a guest appearance by Sting singing background vocals, providing both the signature falsetto introduction and backing chorus of “I want my MTV.”
