Lockdown Licks no. 197. “Take Five” by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Signature riff played on an HB35+ semi acoustic using neck humbucker setting for both lead and rhythm parts. Using a NUX M8 amp on clean setting with just a slight amount of reverb.
Ist video shows the chord comping rhythm on Ebm7/Bbm7 barre at 6th fret. This is recorded on to my looper pedal.
2nd video has the loop chords with me playing the lead. In the two main phrases the final hammer/pull off riffs are cleverly swapped around making for an interesting hook which is good to the ear .
This is a guitar version with the original soloing played on saxophone by Paul Desmond.
“Take Five” composed by saxophonist Paul Desmond was recorded on the Dave Brubeck album “Time Out” on 1st July 1959. Two years later it became a surprise hit in the pop charts and remains the biggest selling jazz single of all time. The single was inducted into the Grammy hall of fame in 1996..
