Lockdown Lick

Lockdown Licks no. 79

“Throw Down The Sword” by Wishbone Ash. Signature riff played on a Telecaster using neck pick up, volume 8, tone 8. NUX amp on ‘clean’ setting with mid and bass on 5, treble on 7 & a little reverb. Original guitars Powell/Turner.

“Throw Down The Sword,” with its repeating ‘medieval’ style marching riff, is about the aftermath of an ancient bloody battle. The band seamlessly melds a pioneering style, using medieval musical and lyrical themes with 1970s prog’, blues & rock including the dual guitar techniques used subsequently by Thin Lizzy. Argus in 1972 is an album which influenced many rock bands following, and is as such a very powerful rock album.

Argus is the third album by the British rock band Wishbone Ash. It is their most commercially and critically successful album, peaking at No. 3 in the UK Albums Chart.
