Lockdown Licks no. 36
“Honky Tonk Women” by The Rolling Stones. Played on Les Paul Junior tuned to Open G tuning tone on 5, volume on 8. NUX M8 Amp on clean setting with reverb at 2. The riff is hybrid finger picked, uses finger slide, open string/fretted two note run a one step bend and release and damping between notes using fretting hands. Worth noting for those who think Keith Richards is a ‘lazy’ player, he packs a lot of technique into 11 seconds!
Honky Tonk Women” is a 1969 hit song by the Rolling Stones. It was a single-only release, available from 4 July 1969 in the United Kingdom, and a week later in the United States and it topped the charts in both nations. A country version called “Country Honk” was later included on the album Let It Bleed and is well worth a listen in my humble opinion.
