Lockdown Licks no. 221. “Respectable” by the Rolling Stones.
Rhythm riff A5 to D5 intro, then into Keith’s solo. Played on a Butterscotch Telecaster into a NUX M8 amp set to overdrive, with a touch of reverb.The solo, which arrives at 1.30 in the studio version sees him doing his “Chuck Berry” with some quick double stops into the signature Berry two note B to G string riff with bends on G and resolving with a classic “southern rock style” two note riff with full tone bend on the B string and a single note run back to the root note.


“Respectable” is a song by the English rock band the Rolling Stones from their 1978 album Some Girls. It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. In the liner notes to the 1993 compilation album Jump Back: The Best of The Rolling Stones (on which it was included), Jagger said, “It’s important to be somewhat influenced by what’s going on around you and on the Some Girls album, I think we definitely became more aggressive because of the punk thing…”
