Lockdown Licks no. 173. “Brown Eyed Girl”
by Van Morrison.
Intro riffs played on an HB35 guitar set to middle,so both pick ups are used in humbucker settings. This is played through a NUX M8 amp on clean setting with a touch of reverb.
These beautiful riffs are played using two string harmonies following the G and C chords from the song.
“Brown Eyed Girl” is a song by Northern Irish singer and songwriter Van Morrison. Written by Morrison and recorded in March 1967. It reached number 10 on the chart in the US.
According to records, it was originally called “Brown Skinned Girl,” and was about an interracial relationship. Morrison changed it to “Brown Eyed Girl” to make it more palatable for radio stations. Some stations banned it anyway for the line, “Making love in the green grass.”
Similar censorship during the 1960’s included the Stones song “Let’s Spend the Night Together” where they were forced to sing ‘time together’ instead of night when performing on TV.
How puritanical things used to be.
