Lockdown Licks no. 189. “Return of the Grievous Angel.” by Gram Parsons. Lead solo played on a Stratocaster using neck pick up into a NUX M8 amp on clean setting with slight reverb. Original played by rock n roll hall of fame guitarist James Burton. The song has great pedal steel and violin leads too.
“Return of the Grievous Angel” is a song written by Gram Parsons and poet Tom Brown. The song depicts the experiences of the character during a road trip across the United States. He sings of being out with the truckers, kickers, cowboy angels, even meeting Elvis on drugs, importantly a good saloon in every single town!
A personal favourite of mine, the song was produced during the recording sessions of his second and last album, ‘Grievous Angel” in 1974. Parsons sang harmony lead with Emmylou Harris.
