Lockdown Licks no. 234. ‘The Joker Style Slide’. Based on the Steve Miller Band song of the same name.
Looking for some ‘easy’ but head turning riffs to start playing your bottleneck slide?
Try these ‘The Joker’ style riffs!
Played on a Stratocaster into a NUX M8 amp set to ‘clean’ with high reverb setting.
The guitar is tuned to ‘open E’ with these riffs played in F and based around the 14th fret. I start with a single note slide on E string then into 3 triplet riffs, each played on two strings moving up E to B, B to G, G to D. An 11 note ‘melody’ riff is then played, sliding up from 12th to14th fret on G and extending to 16th on B string. The final ‘counterpoint’ riff, proudly stolen from Duane Allman , is played on D and A strings. His initials too!
