Lockdown Licks no. 25
“Little Red Rooster” by Willie Dixon.
Played using a Jim Dunlop tapered glass bottleneck, aka slide, with a clean tone/middle pick up selected on the Stratocaster guitar.
“Little Red Rooster” is a blues standard credited to arranger and songwriter Willie Dixon. Best known when released as a single by English band “The Rolling Stones” in 1965. It was seen as a brave decision to release a ‘pure’ blues song and their version, with bottleneck played by the late Brian Jones RIP, remains closer to the original arrangement than other covers of the song. It became a number one record in the UK. It continues to be the only ‘pure’ blues song to reach the top of the British chart!
