Lockdown Lick 268

Lockdown Licks no. 268. “One Chain (Don’t Make No Prison)” by Santana. Closing riffs played on a Telecaster into a NUX M8 amp set to ‘superlead’ with medium reverb. Using 4 descending finger slide riffs, then back up to a full tone bend, followed by two “double stop” pedal riffs to end. I always loved the chorus;

“One Chain don’t make no prison,

Two wrongs don’t make no right,

One rain don’t make no river,

One punch don’t make no fight.”

One Chain is a song from the album “Inner Secrets”.

Inner Secrets is the tenth studio album by Santana. It was released in 1978 and marks the start of the phase of Santana’s career where he moved away from the fusion of Latin, jazz, rock and blues that marked his previous records and began to move towards an album-oriented rock direction. “Stormy” and “One Chain (Don’t Make No Prison)” were both hit singles. In the Netherlands “Well All Right” was released as a single and reached #22 in the top 40.
