Lockdown Lick 286

Lockdown Licks no.286.

A lick and review in one today.🎸🎧✌️

“The Great Gig in the Sky” Lap Steel solo version. Played on a brand new HB Vintage Slider 2 guitar.

Using a NUX M8 amp set to clean with analogue delay set to tempo. In lick no. 282 I played this Dave Gilmour classic on a Stratocaster set up lap steel style tuned to DGDGBE low to high strings. Here I play the solo on the Vintage Slider 2 lap steel. The solo was originally played on a similar instrument. For the tiny cost of this HB lap steel with I guess ‘standard’ factory string set..’tens’, it held Dave’s D hybrid tuning nicely. The tone and volume control silently do a nice job to set against the eq on the amp. I customised the volume knob for a slimline knurled Telecaster one I had spare, for extra steel to go with the chrome scratch plate!

This is the very first solo played on the brand new lap steel.

I was impressed with the clarity and fullness of the notes from the single coil pick up with next to no hum or noise. Being way off the fretboard, I enjoyed using the stainless steel “bullet” bar which came with the guitar. The gold fret markers worked well. It was easy to tune to the hybrid D tuning used in the Pink Floyd “Great Gig”..solo. It also sounds good in ‘country D’ tuned ‘DADF#AD’ tuning.
