Lockdown Lick 366
Lockdown Licks no. 366. “Rock And A Hard Place” by the Rolling Stones. Signature style rhythm riffs and Ron Wood style lead riff. Played on a Stratocaster into a NUX M8 amp set to ‘classic’ with some reverb. Using the “Trio” pedal drum pattern as backing.
From 1989 the song is the Stones singing of a famine-ridden world full of trash where the “country comes begging to town.” Not prophetic, as Jagger is only singing about what was happening back then. What has, for many, become increasingly their reality ever since.
I always thought it an underrated Stones song, with its uptempo style, funky rhythm, expansive ‘team’ vocals from Mick and backers and meaningful words,…speaking for themselves.‘
