Lockdown Licks no. 369 Hideaway by John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers.
Song style riffs with improv minor 7 chord into “rake & slide” riff to end. Played on HB35+ guitar on neck pick up into a NUX M8 amp set to “classic” with gain backed off to 7 and a little reverb.
A short but sweet “right of passage” blues rock riff with hammer on, pull-offs a couple of bends. If you could play this style in the 60s you were a candidate for the Bluesbreakers!!
Also famous for the Gibson Les Paul style “growling chords” & sustain rich, overdriven lead guitar sound, as played by Clapton on a Les Paul guitar.
In 1963, Clapton was introduced to “Hide Away” (and the single’s B-side “I Love the Woman”) by bandmate Tom McGuinness of the Roosters. Later in 1966, he recorded “Hideaway” for the John Mayall Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton album. The version followed the original, but with a jazzier rhythm-section.
