Lockdown Licks no. 397

Although Keith Richards normally, rightly, gets praise as Stones riff creator, there are the awesome talents of 1970s Mick Taylor to enjoy too!

“Time Waits For No One”

by the Rolling Stones.

Mick Taylor’s intro style riff & signature lead run.

Played on a Stratocaster into a NUX M8 amp set to clean with slight flanger

and reverb. Rhythm is from playing the riffs to a Trio pedal which then provides drum/percussion.

Mick Taylors repeating lead runs & solo really adds to the song.

His intro run and riffs are ethereal, hinting at the vocal line “time waits for no one”. Some pop Latin influence too. A trip to Brazil he mentions, influence his play.

“Time Waits for No One” is a song by the English rock band the Rolling Stones from the 1974 album It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll. It was the first song recorded for the album.Credited to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, “Time Waits for No One” is a slower, smoother song than the ones for which the Stones are best known. The track features a distinctive groove that has been compared to the later song “Waiting on a Friend” on Tattoo You 1981(recording of which in fact started in late 1972). It is also noted for its distinct Latin influences.
