Lockdown Licks no.80
“Bebop Monty” tribute chords/lead riffs played in the style of Wes Montgomery. Played on the butterscotch Telecaster played with thumb, using neck pick up, volume on 8 and tone on 4. NUX amp with middle/bass on 8, treble on 5.
John Leslie “Wes” Montgomery 1923-68 was the most influential bebop jazz guitarist of past and present times. He’s the one that changed both the mentality of players that followed AND the way the instrument is played. It’s hard to hear anything “Jazz Guitar” and not associate it with a hint of Wes Montgomery behind it!
Instead of using a guitar pick, Montgomery plucked the strings with the fleshy part of his thumb, using down strokes for single notes and a combination of up strokes and down strokes for chords and octaves.
